Lime Crime Haul & Unboxing!

Good morning all! Hope you are feeling rested and in a great mood this Friday.

Today I have something rather exciting, because we’re talking LIPSTICK HAUL…. and who doesn’t love lipsticks?

In case you were not aware, Lime Crime recently had a massive sale on, with some of their Velvetines going down to just $5! I obviously just had a lipstick clearout, so what better time to just go and buy a bunch more?? hahaha. I added approximately 90% of their $5 items to my online cart, and then realised just how ridiculous I was being. There were bundles that were reduced down to $10 a piece with three lipsticks in them, and so I was economical and started looking at them instead.

In case you aren’t familiar with Lime Crime, this was an amazing deal! Velvetines working out at $3.33 a piece? *heart eyes*

So I ended up buying three bundles, and trying to vary the colours a bit so I got a wide range. Unfortunately what I can’t show you today are the two individual ones that I pleaded my friend to go back and buy me while she shopped because I regretted not getting them! Haha.

Unfortunately the sale has ended now and a lot of these are back up in price, but they do have a small selection of things still reduced if you want to check it out!

So I’m gonna try and do this in the form of an unboxing so you see how they came. I want to also point out that the shipping for this, considering they came from California, was incredibly fast… but I found this with my last package from them too. Props to Lime Crime for that, because there were a lot of problems in the past with their shipping. I ordered these on the 24th May, and I received them yesterday on 1st June. A week in shipping from the US is great to me.

Let’s get cracking!

As you might have seen in this post, the packaging remains beautiful. Inauspicious on the outside, then you open it to a heavenly sight of pinks and blues and flowers and unicorns. I’m a sucker for pretty packaging; I just think it’s a nice little detail rather than a plain white box.

IMG_2280 copy.jpg

The first box I opened contained my beautiful little Champagne Velve-tin, which was lovingly wrapped up in pink bubble wrap. I didn’t even know you could get pink bubble wrap…. and now I feel like I need it in my life, ya know, for…. reasons.

IMG_2283 copy.jpg

So let’s talk about the Velve-tin first then, as it was the first one I unboxed.

I have been eyeing up the Velve-tins for a while now. I think they’re a really cute concept. Three minis in a super cute tin with different colour schemes. I actually fell in love with the red one, then the pink one, but when I saw this one I was just kind of obsessed.

IMG_2305 copy

The rose-gold colour Happi, I am particularly obsessed with. I have no idea if it will go with my skintone at all, or if I would suit a metallic lipstick, but it’s just gorgeous.

IMG_2302 copy

This nude colour, Lulu, looks like it will be a great peachy nude for my pale skintone. As I said in my post where I was clearing out my lipsticks, I’m looking to diversify my nude collection, and I’ve managed to add a couple of great ones with this haul 🙂

I did have one slight issue with Lulu. When I opened it, I think the product had separated a bit, and oil came out the tube and started running down the sides. That was a bit annoying, but it didn’t happen to any of the others, and the lipstick seemed fine once I resealed it and gave it a bit of a shake.

IMG_2300 copy.jpg

Lana is a beautiful bronze which I think is gorgeous, but I’m not sure it will work on me. Looks like it would be greater on dark skin, but I will certainly still get use out of it as I think it will make an incredible eyeliner!

IMG_2286 copy

Onto the next box!

IMG_2290 copy.jpg

This is the True Love bundle, which I got for an absolute steal. It’s meant to be $60, and they had it reduced to $10 in the sale! I know right?! (The lipsticks look a little separated in the pic above but they were absolutely fine)

IMG_2318 copy.jpg

This one I was attracted to because I was already going to buy one of the shades in it for $5, so I thought I may as well get a bundle of three shades (they are full size!) for $10 instead 🙂

IMG_2309 copy

First up we have Cupid, which is just my absolute favourite shade of pink, which is a muted nude-pink. This the kind of shade I’d describe as “vintage rose” if I had to come up with another name. It reminds me of a slightly darker liquid shade of Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm (Elusive) as seen in my lipstick clearout post.

I have a feeling that this one will become a go-to.

IMG_2312 copy

Next up is Saint, which is a shade I’m also super excited about! I don’t have a really deep, dark red in my collection at all, and I’m so glad to finally rectify that. I can see this one getting a lot of use once we come out of summer and into Autumn and Winter!

IMG_2313 copy

This shade shares the name of the bundle – True Love – and is the shade I bought the bundle for. I am obsessed with this colour. It’s like the birthchild of Pink Velvet and Suedeberry mixed together, and creates a really vivid, almost neon, pinky red.

I feel like this is a shade I’m actually going to have to talk myself out of wearing on a daily basis, because it’s just so beautiful.

IMG_2315 copy

(Cupid, Saint, True Love)

IMG_2294 copy

This next bundle I am struggling to find the name to, as it is not available as a bundle on their website at all anymore. After a bit of Googling, I have found some people calling it “the Holiday Trio” and some “the Blue Bundle”. Fortunately, you can still buy two of the shades in this separately!

At first glance, they look like quite unusual shades to put together, but they actually are such a nice bundle of rich, deep shades altogether.

IMG_2319 copy

Here we have Peacock, which is the only shade no longer available, and I think is a real shame. Now, obviously a lot of people will not be into blue lipstick. I personally have never tried out a blue lipstick, but I actually love the look of them so have been really excited to!

Peacock is a great place to start. It is a deep, super rich, teal blue which is one of my absolute favourite colours. It was love at first sight for this lipstick and I, and I am wearing it right now. In fact, I love it so much I’m gonna give it a post all of its own – so look out for that!

IMG_2322 copy.jpg

The nude shade in this collection is Buffy. On the website I think it looks much darker than it actually is. On the website it looks similar to Kat Von D’s Lolita, but it seems much paler from the swatches I have done. It looks a lot like Lulu, but without the peachy undertone.

IMG_2325 copy

And the final one I have to show you all is the gorgeous Beet It, which is a super rich, dark magenta. It is absolutely stunning on, and the first one I tried after receiving my haul.

I swatched the shades together like the others, and can see why they were grouped together. A varying range of deep shades which are really representative of Velvetines themselves.

IMG_2327 copy

And that’s all of them!

Like I said, I also ordered a couple of others, but they remain with my friend at the moment. Despite this, I think that I have managed to pick up quite a diverse range of shades at present. What do you think?

IMG_2331 copy

IMG_2288 copy

I will be sure to get back to you once I’ve received the others!

So did anyone else manage to snag a bargain in the sale? Feel free to share in the comments!

Finally Clearing Out my Lipsticks!

My friend recently posted a picture on facebook of all of her lipsticks with the caption, “I think I have a problem”. After telling her that her collection most definitely was not a problem, I got to thinking about my own lipstick hoard. I don’t think it’s that big, to be honest with you. I think my issue is that I have problems letting go of stuff, particularly stuff I’ve paid good money for, even if those things have an expiry or limited shelf life.

I’ll be honest with you: a lot of my lipsticks are very old. I almost never reach the end of a tube of lipstick. In fact, I think I’ve only done it once in my life, and that one is still in the collection I’m about to show you. Yah.

So yesterday I felt it was high time for a clearout. I thought, I’ll go through all of them, and if I haven’t work particular ones recently, I’ll chuck them.

Well, those were my intentions. Remember that thing I just said about not being able to let go? Best laid plans, and all that. Last night I ended up picking out only 2 that I wanted to ditch, but in the light of day, I’m feeling more positive and ruthless. My makeup goals going forward are to try more stuff, and for that I need to let go of the old. Wish me luck!

These are my nudes 😉

My nude lipstick collection is probably the one area I want to expand and diversify the most. As you can see, I only have a few, and I’d like to do better. I think I’ve missed most of the hype over nude lipsticks over the past couple of years. Because I’m so pale, I tend to suit pinks better. I also get really anxious about nude lipsticks making my teeth look yellow. I have no idea if that’s a legitimate concern everyone has, or just me because I hate my teeth? In any case, there are a couple of stand-outs in here, and one that I keep in my handbag at all times.

From top to bottom:

Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait (Exotic Fruits)
I’ll be honest with you: I have never worn this one out. Its tube is the gorgeous blue one with little illustrations all over it, it’s cruelty free, and the tube is made of cardboard too (which I totally dig – yay environment!). However, it’s very pale. Really reminds me of Babette by Lime Crime (whose site appears to be down right now and I can’t link to), and that’s a shade that I love even though I don’t own, so I’m determined to make this one work. I’ll set it as a new challenge to myself. And for that reason, I can’t chuck it.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H (Invincible Sable)
This lipstick isn’t available anymore, and was my first go-to nude liquid lip. It looks quite dark in the swatch above, but it’s one of those funny ones that seems to look a different shade in every kind of lighting, ranging from a super pale nude to dark brown. And old fave. I’ll use it until it’s dead.

MDM Flow Lipstick (Bossy)
This is the one I was referring to above that always stays in my handbag. You’ll also have seen it in a few recent looks I have on here, too. As you can see on their website, Bossy is a nude that seems to suit all skin tones, and it is also the most successful matte tube lipstick I own (the pics on the website make it look glossy, but it is not). I usually go for liquid lips now because tube lipsticks don’t have the colour payoff and staying power they seem to, but Bossy defies all expectations there. I’d love to purchase more from this company.

Pantone Universe Stick (18-1433)
This is the chubby stick in the pic above, and despite the little pantone bit on the bottom of it and how dark it looks on the actual crayon, it’s super light. I described this in a previous post as a “my lips but better” colour, but actually now I just think it’s just so desaturated it’s basically a lipsitcky-lipbalm. I have reached for this recently because it’s good for a barely-there lip, but in the interests of being ruthless and getting through the other lipsticks I own, I’ll chuck it.

Kokie Professional Sheer Lipstick (Café au Lait)
It wasn’t until I swatched this that I realised how similar it is to the Pantone lipstick below it on my arm. The tube of this lipstick is really nice, and this brand is really affordable! It’s a nice sheer lipstick, which is quite dark on me, but I can still pull off (I think…). I haven’t worn it out yet, but I’ll keep it.

Pantone Universe Lipstick (18-1438)
Unlike the chubby stick from the same set whose packaging would lead you to believe it’s the same colour, this lipstick is actually a dark brick colour. It’s probably way past its shelf life, and having seen how close in colour it is to the Kokie one above, I’ll get rid.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Lolita)
I find it a little embarrassing that this is still the only shade of this lipstick that I own, because I adore it. The formula is so soft and non-drying, and I honestly think Kat Von D makes the best quality vegan makeup out there. Lolita is dark on me, and when I first got it, I was so unsure, but it’s become a staple for me that I love.

Retro reds. Literally. Okay, they’re just old.

I honestly can’t tell you the last time I wore a red lip, and that’s a very strange thing for me to say, because it used to be something I did daily. I went through a big 50s style kick, and of course, red lips are a go-to with that. But as my style changed, so did my feelings toward red lips. Obviously they’re still a classic, but I feel a lot more apathy toward them now than the passion I felt before. The reason why so many of these are so old, is because they were bought just before I discovered Lime Crime.
I actually found Lime Crime because it was linked through lots of 50s style forums I was on years ago, and at the time they only had three shades. I bought two of them (Red Velvet and Suedeberry) and never looked back. I used and reordered and then used them again until they were done, and this is what was left behind.

(Which is a shame, because look at those pretty swatches all in a row)

Again, from top to bottom:

Accessorize Lipstick – Really Red
This was the lightest red I owned, more of a tomato red than the darked blue-toned reds I liked. It’s definitely way past its shelf-life and applies patchy, so it’s going.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer (Keep trying for you)
The only liquid lip red I own now. It’s super, super pigmented, and colour-wise a great dupe for Lime Crime’s Red Velvet… however, it is a cheap one and the price reflects the quality. Great for the short-term or if you’re not going to be eating, but will flake off given enough time. I’m gonna keep it, as a just in case, until I get a good quality liquid lip that’s this pigmented.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss Naturel Lipstick (Rouge Soyeux)
Bourjois lipsticks used to be my favourite, and back in the day, they were the go-to for great reds as well. I felt so posh for buying Bourjois, which used to be at the higher price-point for drugstore makeup, before I knew there was anything more than drugstore makeup. I still think this is the nicest swatch on my arm above, but I begrudgingly throw it in the trash, as you’d be shocked at my estimation for how old this is.

I don’t know where this lipstick is from, how old it is, or anything, and as you can see, it’s trash. I don’t know why it’s even in the basket. BUH-BYE.

Avon True Colour Lipstick (Red 2000)

Ah, Avon. My old highschool fave. I had so much makeup from Avon as a teenager, mostly because my Mum loved it and also because I had a few friends who were Avon ladies. A couple of old lipsticks from Avon have straggled on in my collection (which you’ll see later), but this one is actually new! My Mum bought it for me and it has remained untouched until that arm swatch.

Now, that, is lipstick porn.

I’m impressed by it, to be honest. It’s a really true red, and I would say more pigmented than the Bourjois ones. It is super creamy (I get the feeling it would melt easily), and I don’t have high hopes for it in terms of staying power, but the colour means it stays.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss Lipstick (Rouge Sur Mesure)
This was my favourite red tube lipstick of all time, and the only one I have ever used down to the bottom. There’s only a tiny bit of it left. As with everything though, we romanticise past versions, and this isn’t as good as I remember. And because of how old it is, I’m saying goodbye.

Makeup Academy Lipstick (Shade 1)
This is the cheapest lipstick I own, and surprisingly okay. This is a very blue-toned red, which makes it verge on plum, and really, the only thing I can say is it does the job. There’s nothing stand-out about it, but it’s also good enough that I don’t feel the urge to chuck it.

Now we have my lil plum/purple collection:

Too Faced Melted Lipstick (Melted Fig)
I did a review on this one last year when I got it. It looks way more pigmented swatched on my arm than on my face, but it’s a nice lipstick. I’m still not a fan of the applicator, but I do like the formula, and the colour is pretty.

Avon Lipstick (Drawn to You)
This is definitely one I should be throwing away because it’s so old, but I won’t for now because the colour is so pretty and I don’t currently have another like it. My favourite look I’ve done with this lipstick was this one here, and it’s got such a nice sheen to it which almost looks duochrome. I’m going to aim to use this one more so I don’t get to the point where it has to get chucked with no use. It’s on its last chance.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer (Rebel)
As I said with the red shade from the same range, it’s a liquid lip on a budget. This one is a gorgeous dark plum colour, but you do need to fill it in a bit as it applies quite patchy.

I have a couple of little oranges for you here, and they’re both from Lime Crime. I bought these last year when I was looking for true orange lipsticks as opposed to corals, and they did not disappoint. I do want to get more coral lips into my collection, but last year I had a bit of an obsession with orange, and Lime Crime was my go-to for such a bright shade.

Lime Crime Velvetines (Squash)
You will probably have seen from numerous other posts as well as the review of it I did, as this is probably my favourite lipstick. It’s not to everyone’s tastes, but the muted tone of this makes it so wearable. This one has been on sale on the website for what feels like forever, so hopefully it still is when I inevitably use this tube up 😀

Lime Crime Unicorn Lipstick (My Beautiful Rocket)
This one isn’t stocked anymore after they got rid of most of their unicorn lipsticks, which is a shame because this is an amazing tangerine lipstick. It’s so pigmented and bright, and I love it. Like I said with Squash, it’s clearly not going to be to everyone’s tastes, but I think it’s cool.

I saved my biggest colour collection for last: here come the pinks.

Top to bottom, as before:

Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm (Demure)
This colour stick is really pretty. It’s very light and shimmery, and great for summery looks. It also feels really nice on application, like a lipbalm, and smells minty. I’m a big fan of this one, even though I don’t reach for it much.

Like one of the red ones, I have no idea what it is. It’s a really chalky-textured pale pink and it is gone.

Estée Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick (Candy Shimmer)
I nabbed this one from my Mum as the shade was too light for her. I don’t purchase Estée Lauder myself because they’re not cruelty free, but owning a couple of lipsticks is nice because it reminds me of my Mum. She has always bought and worn the brand, and their makeup has such a distinct scent that to open a tube of their lipstick will automatically make me think of her. This one is a nice shimmery pink, and I’ve worn it a few times.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer (What I Believe)
A cute pink colour, but as with the other ones, not great staying power. The colour is nice enough for me to keep, though.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H (Timeless Rosé)
Like with Invincible Sable, this one is a classic for me. It’s definitely on its way out as it’s almost used up and starting to separate, but it has been a staple for me and I’ll keep it going until it’s gone or really goes bad. I have used this one in loads of posts before, and it’s still the one I reach for when I feel like I should have something on my lips, but nothing too standout.

LOC Millie by Birchbox
I hated this one as soon as I saw it, and have been meaning to get rid of it for the longest time. However, I just tried it on again and I’m feeling a bit better about it. I have no idea why, but whereas before I just didn’t think the colour suited me, now I think it’s quite cute. It’s meant to be glossy, but it’s more sticky than glossy, but it’s not that bad. I was expecting this to be chucked immediately, but I think I’ll keep it a little longer and see if I do anything with it.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm (Elusive)
This is the lip colour I bought for my wedding, then had a change of heart at the last minute about, and regretted it. That’s life. It’s actually an amazing lipstick. It’s so nice on, the colour is stunning, it smells great, has decent staying power, and is matte. But, for whatever reason, I feel sad about using it. Maybe because of what could have been? I don’t know. In any case, it stays.

Estée Lauder Lipstick (Exotic Orchid)
This is like a darker shade of Candy Shimmer, and I’ve used it a few times. I’ll keep it in on the off-chance because it’s too nice to chuck.

NYX Liquid Suede (Life’s a Beach)
love NYX, and I can’t believe I only have one shade of this! The Liquid Suede range are matte liquid lipsticks, but don’t dry out like other ones. This means they don’t have the same staying power as others (though they do still last amazingly) but feel nicer on. They are also super pigmented (as you can see), and they’re relatively cheap! I adore it, and I hope to buy more NYX stuff soon.

Frankie Rose Lipstick (Pink Melon)
This was one I got in a Wantable box, and I love the colour. I’ve described it before as “neon baby pink” or “watermelon”… obviously not a real watermelon, but that pink colour that always seems to be attributed to watermelons for some reason. I really like this, and I’m keeping it.

My vivid pinks:

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense (Plushest Punch)
This is the only shade of the famous chubby sticks that I own, and I’m glad it’s this one. Plushest Punch is a vivid pink, but so nice on that I think it would be wearable on most skin tones. It does feel moisturising, and I love the packaging. However, I’m gonna go against the grain here and say it’s nothing spectacular of a lipstick. I really like it, but I do feel they’re overpriced. Sorry!

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer (You Took my Love)
As with the other ones, amazing pigmentation, a great cheap liquid lip, flakes after a while.

Avon Lipstick (Flirty Fuschia)
This used to be the brightest lipstick I owned, and I still have a lot of it left because I was so scared to use it for a long time. I do have other lipsticks that are similar now, but the shade is just different enough that it stays.

And there you have it!

I was going to do my lipglosses too, but I think that will have to wait for another time because this post already turned out way longer than expected! I’ve managed to get rid of seven lipsticks, which I don’t think is too bad.

Looking at them all like this makes me realise how little I take advantage of them all, though, and I hope to rectify that, or at least give them some use before chucking them for new ones!

Do you guys have any really old lipsticks you can’t get rid of? Tell me I’m not the only one please!

Until next time, take care ❤

Lime Crime’s ‘Squash’ Velvetine

Good morning lovely people. I hope you’re all coping well this Tuesday after a long weekend (if you’ve been lucky enough to have one!). I hope it has been kind to you and the weather has been good :]

I’m really excited to be writing this post today, because for the first time in a long time I am the owner of a couple of Lime Crime products again.
I stopped using Lime Crime about a year ago after their problems with their site being hacked and credit card details stolen, after which I looked into the company and found some less than favourable info about the company’s owner (if you want to see some of this you can find it on here). This was unfortunate as at this time they probably had only half the amount of Velvetines they have now, and so I watched the launch of colour after beautiful colour, saddened that I felt I couldn’t buy them.

So why the change? Well, as I may have mentioned, I have been trying to make a shift in my makeup to only buying ethical products not tested on animals. This is why you will never find me with a MAC product (well, not until they change their policies at least). I’m still human and fuck up, and sometimes buy things from companies which I think are ethical and turn out not to be. You may note from this post that I own a lot of Makeup Revolution stuff, who do not test on animals, but their matte lipsticks don’t last the longest, and I’m looking for something a little more durable.
I had considered buying Jeffree Star, however recently I’ve been directed toward a bunch of racist and sexist comments of his, and he’s also very contradictory in his approach to business (he complained on social media about Kylie’s lipglosses, then berated a customer of his complaining on social media about his products, when he had a similar issue). I just don’t fucks with people like that.
My problem is that Doe and Jeffree create the best vegan liquid lipsticks out there. You feel me? Well, I’ve been tracking Lime crime, and from what I can see, Doe Deere has stopped being so much of a bitch to her customers, they worked hard to resolve the hacking issue, and in the UK customers also aren’t responsible for possible customs charges which may arise buying from them. So, I’m willing to give them another chance.

One thing I’ve had in my head is that I wanted an orange lipstick to go on holiday with. Not a coral, but an actual orange. I’ve found a few online, but Lime Crime had a sale on, and I ended up buying the more burnt orange ‘Squash’ velvetine, and the bright orange Unicorn Lipstick ‘Pocket Rocket’. I’m pretty impressed.

IMG_9921 copy

My package was due to arrive in about 9 days, and I think it arrived in 5. Not too bad considering. Of course, with all Lime Crime stuff, the packaging is beautiful. Lot’s of clouds and flowers and unicorns.

IMG_9924 copy

The packaging of the actual Velvetine was the same as I remembered the last time I ordered. It’s nice. Their packaging is one of those things you don’t really wanna throw out! I was pretty impressed the colour in the tube also appeared to look the same as the actual swatches I had seen: this is encouraging because it means the lipstick will usually be true to shade on your face.

I decided to try it for the first time when I was going to a BBQ at a friend’s house on Sunday.

IMG_9974 copy

As expected, the shade came out exactly the same on my face.

The lipstick actually smelled like Play-Doh. That doesn’t bother me that much, and I didn’t notice it at all after application, but that was just a little unusual for me as I remember Red Velvet and Suedeberry smelling kind of like Vanilla when I owned them.
The best thing about this was the application – I didn’t have any issues at all, which I usually do with lipstick application. For some reason I always seem to fill one side of my upper lip thicker than the other! This went on very smoothly and felt very creamy, with no dragging. It also went on as pictured with one application – I didn’t top it up at all.

IMG_9985 copy

One of the things I was also worried about was how it would make my teeth look. I do think the shade makes them look a teensy bit more yellow, but to be honest I wasn’t all that bothered, because I loved the shade so much I just didn’t let that bother me.

I wanted this shade to be the standout, so I went for natural matte colours on my lids instead of shimmers. My wings came out a bit bigger than I intended but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They look good.

IMG_9991 copy

In terms of durability, I applied the lipstick at about 10.45am and took it off without any reapplying at about 7.30pm. By the time I came to take it off I did notice the colour was wearing a little, but it still looked alright. I hadn’t noticed it flaking on my lips at all, which is something I definitely notice after a bit with the Makeup Revolution lipsticks. The above description was after eating BBQ food like burgers and drinking beers. Which – I think – is incredible.

My Makeup: Lips

So I was thinking I would do something a bit different this week. I’m going to be doing a few posts over the next few days sharing my (relatively small) makeup collection with you.

The reason why I decided to do this is because, as you may have guessed, being creative with makeup is something relatively new to me. I have been wearing makeup since 14, so I have over 10 years of everyday experience under my belt, but that was all I used it for. Everyday wear, switching between products or using stuff I was bought. However, now I find it much more thrilling to seek out makeup, to read about makeup, and to play about with it a bit more.

I’m in no way looking to become a makeup artist. My skills aren’t great and I am certainly no professional. I adore reading the blogs of those of you who are and experiencing that amazing creativity, but I’m not looking to reproduce it myself. I’m just a girl having a love affair with makeup at the minute and sharing that with you guys.

I felt like sharing my current collection with you will help you guys understand what I’m working with at the minute, and then it means anything new I happen to purchase I can write brand new reviews and thoughts on, and you can watch my collection expand with me! Sound cool? Cool. We’ll start today with lips.

Accessorize Lipstick – Really Red

This lipstick isn’t available anymore, and judging from their website, it looks like Accessorize might be moving out of the makeup game altogether. It’s a shame because this is a nice, moisturising tomato red colour. It’s pretty similar, but just a tad more red, to Lime Crime’s Suedeberry.

Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick – Drawn to You

As is Avon’s deal, they are always changing their packaging and formulas when it comes to their makeup, so this also isn’t available any longer in what is known as this shade, although it is pretty similar to the “Wine With Everything” shade that is available. Really nice satin lipstick which is really moisurising. The only issue I have with this one is that it isn’t super pigmented, so takes a few applications to get a good non-patchy colour.

Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick – Flirty Fuschia

Same deal here as it’s the exact same lipstick in a different shade. This one is more pigmented and it a neon fuschia shade which I was too nervous to wear for a long, long time. Luckily I’m out of that funk and have a similar colour in a liquid lipstick from Makeup Revolution which I love. I should try to wear this one more as it will be more forgiving in the heat over the summer, though. Plus, I am really liking that photo… hmm. Looks pretty good.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss Naturel Lipstick – Rouge Soyeux

So, writing this post has made me realise something: I have some old ass lipsticks. This Bourjois one is ALSO not available anymore, which has bummed me out as I loved the Sweet Kiss range and had gone through a few of these and only have two left standing. This one actually only has about 1/2 a cm left on it.
This was my absolute favourite lipstick, before I discovered liquid lipsticks. I still like to use it, which is why it is so used down, but I haven’t been feeling reds lately so it hasn’t seen my face in a while. This is a really true red, but slightly darker, which you maybe can’t tell from my photo. Let’s just get this straight: Bourjois make really fucking great red lipsticks, okay? I’ve linked to their rouge collection because even though I haven’t tried those particular ones, I know they’ll be great.

Bourjois Sweet Kiss Lipstick – Rouge Sur Mesure

This is the truest non-liquid red lipstick I own. As with the other above, it is just a really great red. These lipsticks apply a bit more matte than the other ones I have discussed above, and they can last a hella long time if you prep your lips properly and line them.

Estée Luader Pure Color Lipstick – Exotic Orchid

Estée Lauder is another company who are always switching up their packaging so that’s why this looks a bit different. Strangely, I can’t find this shade on their website? It looks very, very close to Rubellite, though. Maybe it was just rebranded. I also have Candy from this range, which was bought at the same time, and that’s still there. I haven’t included Candy here as – despite only wearing it the other day – I seem to have lost it! I will attempt to go back and review it when it undoubtedly turns up in a handbag somewhere.
love Estée Lauder lipsticks. I don’t find them particularly long lasting, but they are always highly pigmented, moisturising, and to be honest, they just smell damn phenomenal. Exotic Orchid is a really strange colour to put my finger on – a really reddish, pinkish, plumish, shimmery shade. In any case, I likes it.

Frankie Rose Lipstick – Pink Melon

looooove this lipstick. I actually received this through a Wantable box last year, and was obsessed with it straightaway as I didn’t have anything like it. It’s a pale colour, but it is so pigmented I want to almost say it’s neon. Like a neon baby pinkish coralish colour. I’m great at descriptions, can’t you tell? I can imagine this being an amazing colour on darker/black skin as it would POP so much more than on my pasty ass complexion.
Anyway, it applies pretty matte and stays put for ages. I absolutely love this shade for summer – definitely one that will be coming on holibobs with me.

Pantone Universe Lipstick – 18-1438

This lipstick was part of a Christmas gift set I got along with a chubby stick. It’s a pretty nice dark brick red colour. It applies very glossy but also very patchy. I don’t really wear this much, but it does look good when paired with copper-toned eyeshadows.

Makeup Academy Lipstick – Shade 1

This is a surprising lipstick really as it is so very cheap (it costs one whole British pound!)
It actually applies and stays put really well. The one thing that is very strange about this lipstick is how deceptive looks can be – the bottom of the tube makes it look like a true red, the stick itself is a SUPER dark brick red, but it applies as a plum-toned medium red??? This one I got on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised. Makeup Academy isn’t a company I seek out to buy from, and certainly isn’t the first counter I go to, but I wouldn’t be disappointed to receive it as a present, say. It’s my first time looking at their website and I am admiring that coral though…

L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H – Invincible Sable

Ah, onto the liquid lipsticks. My true loves. Obviously these are everywhere now, but I remember back when you could get only a few liquid lipsticks that were made to last – particularly from L’Oreal and Maybelline. I got into wearing liquid lipsticks in about 2008, and I think I started buying Lime Crime in 2012 when they first launched Velvetines and their site was a tiny hard-to-navigate mess. But in the before times, there was Invincible Sable.
Invincible Sable is – in my opinion – the best nude matte lipstick out there. It suits everyone I’ve seen it on. In some lights it looks like a light brown on me, in others, a pale nude. I kind of love that. It even got me through when I failed to pick up Lime Crime’s Cashmere. I just put it on everyday and pretended it was the greige everyone was wearing (it’s not). I wear it most in Autumn and Winter, and I personally think it looks better without the balm (pics: no balm on top right, colour + balm on bottom left). It stays put till you take it off. That’s it. It’s great.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H – Timeless Rosé

Another one of my very favourites. This time because I could literally wear this one every day. It’s just a really nice natural pink “my lips but better” colour which goes with everything. This one actually has some shimmery glitter stuff in it, but it’s actually not really that noticeable and doesn’t make your lips look like a disco ball. I wore this on my sister’s wedding day, and to be honest wish I had worn it on my own as well!
A note on the balm that comes with these: it is so nice just to use on its own. I often just take these in my handbag just so I can use the balm end because they’re so moisturising.
These lip colours just get full marks from me.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer – Velvet Rebel

On to a company I have quite a few products from: Makeup Revolution. As you’ll see, I currently have 4 of these matte liquid lipsticks. There’s really only one note I have on these: they do the job. Do they last all day? No. But they are highly pigmented colours and only cost £3. They’ll last you a good long while if you prep your lips well and don’t do any eating, but they will flake off eventually. Their colour range is fab, and they do last through light drinking and kissing, but they struggle with much more. Perfect if you don’t have a bunch of money to spend and are able to reapply, or for events when you just need a great colour on your lips.
Velvet Rebel is a really dark plum colour and it is gorgeous. I find this one applies quite patchy so need a couple of coats, but once it’s on I love it. I just found out the other day that all Makeup Revolution products are cruelty-free as well, which is a bonus as that is a conscious choice I have been trying to make recently, and will be going forward.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer – Keep Trying for You

Keep Trying for You is a true pillarbox red, and it’s really really pigmented. Like, you could think that you literally painted your lips. My problem with this one is that I find it has the worst formula for staying put, and I find myself taking this off much sooner than the others. It’s a great dupe for Red Velvet, but the price does reflect the quality.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer – What I Believe

What I Believe is my favourite of the MUR liquid lipsticks, as it is the most wearable. It’s a baby pink colour and seems to have the best formula of the bunch as it lasts me the longest when it’s on.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquer – You Took My Love

I spoke about this shade a little in this post – it’s very similar to Pink Velvet but obviously not as long wearing. It’s super vibrant and pigmented and definitely a statement one.

Pantone Universe Stick – 18-1433

As with the lipstick, I got this as part of a gift set so it doesn’t seem to be sold individually. It appears on sight to be the same shade as the lipstick, but it’s extremely desaturated. It’s really moisturising and great to carry round like a tinted lipbalm. Excuse me for using the phrase twice, but it’s a “my lips but better” kind of colour. Not great for actual makeup looks, but good for everyday use.

Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm – Demure

I love these sticks that Revlon does, both in a matte and shiny version and keep meaning to buy more and forgetting! Demure is a glittery finish stick which goes on very balmy. The best thing about these are that they smell minty, and they are quite tingly on the lips – in a good way! This shade is great for peachy/summery looks. The colour is a little pinky peachy but it’s mainly just shimmery.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm – Elusive

This is one I actually bought for my wedding, and is a really vintage-rose kind of shade. I really wish I had have worn either this or my L’Oreal on the day as it’s a beautiful colour with a nice matte finish (I had a change of heart on the day and went for a dark plum!). This one is really nice in its finish and is like the lacquer balm in that it smells minty. I just like this one a lot, okay?

Lord & Berry Ultimate Lipliner – Vintage Rose

This is another product I got in a Wantable box last year, and I love the shade of this pencil. It goes really with the Revlon Elusive Matte balm, and my L’Oreal Timeless Rosé. It applies fine, but lipliners aren’t really my forté to be honest.

Three Custom Color Specialists Lipliner – Warm Red

This was yet another one from a Wantable box. It’s a brick red colour, and it’s great for red lipsticks, however it’s reaaallly dragging to get on. The formula is difficult to work with, but I’ll use it as it works okay (you know I’m a cheapskate).

lipsticks (4)

Stila Lipglaze – Creamsickle

I love Stila. It’s one of those brands I would look at when I was younger and wish I had the money to buy. As I got older I learned I still love their products, although at the minute this seems to be the only thing I own…
I love the design of Stila packaging, but that’s probably just because I love the font associated with the brand. I have a tattoo on my arm in that kind of typewriter font.
In terms of this lipglaze, it is a bit tacky for my liking, as I’m not a big lipgloss person. It’s great for applying in the middle of lipsticks to plump the lips out, but not one I wear on its own much. It’s not very pigmented, but it does have a lot of glitter in it.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipgloss – Glossy Toffee

This one I got very recently, as you may have seen in some previous posts. For someone who doesn’t like lipgloss much, I really like this one. It isn’t sticky at all, which actually makes it one I’m happy to reapply when I need to. As already discussed, it will be great on holiday and with ~ glowy ~ summer looks.

No7 BB Lips Beauty Balm – Blush Coral

Another newbie, and a good ‘un. The best thing about this one is that it has SPF in it, which is fantastic for someone like me who burns alllll over when exposed to the sun. It’s really, really great. Goes on beautifully even though I hate the applicator (one of those slanted plastic with the hole in the middle dispersing it). You can’t see the colour much in photos, but it does apply with a very subtle coral colour. Looking forward to using this lots more.

And that’s it. Doing this has made me realise that some of these do not get nearly enough attention, so maybe you’ll be seeing more looks using a wider variety of lipsticks soon. I’m also looking forward to expanding my collection with time, and when I have enough money! I have a wee Lime Crime package coming this week 🙂

Hope you enjoyed and are looking forward to the rest of my makeup which is not nearly as expansive as this! My lips are killing me today after taking all these photos yesterday lol!
If you’re in the UK I hope you have a wonderful sunny bank holiday this weekend too 😀
