Makeup & Outfit of the Day 04.05.2017

Today I have a post which is actually from a few days ago now which I haven’t had the opportunity to get up yet, and is my makeup and outfit of the day on a day when I wanted to look a lil nicer than usual, but still comfy.

In case you were not aware, my optimal state is comfort, and I will always opt for that where I can in my clothing choices. Leggings are almost always the go-to for me, something that I would have never expected to happen several years ago, when size 12 me would say “I’m too fat to wear leggings as trousers!” … well, fuck that. They’re comfy as hell and also, while we’re on the subject, there’s no such thing as “too fat to wear”. Wear what you want, when you want. (/fat positivity rant for the day).

So on this particular day we have a khaki zara basics tee, I believe the leggings are Goldigga, some platform velour slip-ons from Topshop, choker from an old Marzia box, and earrings my sister made. All are perfectly accessorised by my favourite Skinny Dip phone case.

On to makeup!

IMG_0801 copy.jpg

I believe I’m in a weird minority of people who choose their makeup before their clothes most days. I pick whatever colour I feel like putting near my face, then whatever clothes. Sometimes they match, sometimes they don’t.

I was playing about with my Urban Decay XX Reloaded palette on this day (and yes, I know it always seems to be this palette, but I’m skint and can’t afford new makeup all the time okay? T_T), and the main colours we have going on here are Acid Rain, Mildew and Moonflower. It was not until after the entire process I realised my eyes were reminiscent of an over-ripe avocado.

Also, I’m really struggling with the photo above as it’s an angle I absolutely hate, but I’m trying to get over things like that. It’s my face.

Here I am looking fierce and pretending I’m serving LEWKS when really it’s the sun getting in my eyes. Also wow, look how truly terrible my hair is looking as I try to grow out this fringe. Is that a speck of dandruff I see? Iconic.

IMG_0813 copy

Ah, that’s better. Looking a bit cuter and Bambi-eyed here. Can you tell I have nothing to talk about today? It’s all commentary on my face. I’ll give you some product rundowns instead okay? And yes, I’m still working through the last of non-vegan products so there will be stuff here that’s not cruelty-free and so I won’t be linking.

Allow me to Summer-eyes

I apologise profusely for the terrible pun.

As I spoke about yesterday, I was super excited about some of the new makeup I got and anxious to play about with it, so I did.

Because I had just gotten that lovely lipgloss and my Barry M Get up and Glow kit, it inspired me to do something summery with my makeup, which has got me wishing away the days until my holiday (25!!).

Of the stuff I got, I adore the blush kit, the lipgloss and -I think- the primer. I say I think because I’ve only had it a couple of days, but it applies beautifully and so far I think the couple of looks I’ve used it with have stayed pretty much in place.

The eye illuminizer is a little dark for me, as I already discussed yesterday, but it does blend out well. The powder is a little too dark but useable, which I’m super annoyed at myself about as I should know by now ALWAYS to go with “Fair” instead of “Translucent”.

My search for great waterproof mascara continues! I don’t like this one. I also spoke yesterday about how I didn’t like my current waterproof mascara- this is because it applies too thinly and I can barely get any coverage on my small, blonde lashes. Well, this one is the opposite. The wand is massive and fiddly to use without getting mascara all over your lid. I imagine it would be a nightmare in particular to monolidded eyes. As you can see, I did manage to get it on to a decent standard, but this took 3 coats and my lashes were so clumped I had to brush them through with a spoolie brush several times to separate them. HOWEVER I really am such a bargain hunter that I WILL be taking this on holiday and getting my use out of it, even if I have to buy a disposable spoolie to use with it.

I won’t rave about the Barry M kit again, but it is seriously good for a cheap product. You definitely get your money’s worth.
The lipgloss is lovely and balmy and not sticky, which I usually expect from lipglosses and hence why I never wear them. It will be good to have in my arsenal over the summer.

Beauty Haul 22/5/16

Aaaaah, is there anything nicer than brand new makeup??

In case I haven’t mentioned in before, I do not have a huge ton of money to spend on clothes and beauty products. This is the reason why most of the stuff you see featured on here is old stock clothing or the same makeup over and over. However today I went into Boots to have a gander and needed just a couple of little bits, and came out with quite a lot.

When looking at the Max Factor stuff, it turned out that if you spent £15 you got a free “Bright Eyed Glamour” set worth £33. Another thing: I am an absolute sucker for a bargain. I decided I needed a couple of bits anyway, so this was a must in my eyes.

The products I actually bought were the Facefinity All Day Primer and the Creme Puff powder in Translucent.

I hadn’t gone out looking for primer, but I did realise while I was there that my old faithful was running out, and I was attracted to this one as it has SPF20 – not only is this good for me in general due to being so pale skinned, but I’m off on holiday next month so hopefully this will prove useful in the sun as well as my SPF foundation (I detest putting suncream on my face). Having tested it, the consistency was much thinner than expected, but I’m interested to see how it applies seeing as my current one is more like a thick mousse as it’s a pore minimiser.

The powder is just because I was running out.

Now the interesting bit:

Because I spent over £15 I received the “Bright Eyed Glamour” kit, which includes Eye Luminizer Brightener, Voluptuous False Lash Effect waterproof mascara, and Colour Elixir Lipgloss in Glossy Toffee. The best thing about this? All FULL SIZE products!

The mascara is perfect as I needed a waterproof mascara for holiday. The only waterproof mascara I currently have is the L’Oreal Million Lashes one which I bought for a wedding, however I wasn’t super impressed by it. To be fair, I never really am with waterproof mascaras, however with a quick test of this one it looks to be alright. The wand is seriously massive, though.

After a quick test of the Eye Luminizer, it is very very orange, however using the tiniest bit and the corner of my beauty blender I was able to blend it in really well, and it does seem to make a difference and act as a good primer, too.

I was a little concerned about the lipgloss as I am not a lipgloss girl and it didn’t look at all my colour, however it is actually a really muted slightly glowy shade which, again, will be perfect for holiday. It smells amaaaaazing, too.

One of the things I did go out with the intention of getting was blusher, and I ended up with this:

IMG_9561 copy

As you may be able to see, this is the Barry M Get Up & Glow bronzer, blusher and highlighter palette. It is pretty.

IMG_9563 copy

On the left is the bronzer, the middle and top right are the blushes, and the bottom right is the highlighter.

The reason why I was so attracted to this palette is because you can mix and match and blend together the blushes to get a really peachy glow. My current blusher is far, far too pale for me and I need to use a ton of it to get any colour, and my other creme blush is a more burnt red colour which I prefer to use in the winter. I needed one that was going to give me that ~ glow ~ on holiday and over the summer, and this is it! The bottom blush in particular really reminds me of Nars Orgasm (though I wouldn’t be opposed if someone wanted to buy me that as well 😉 ).

I did a test of these on my face and they are beautiful, but I’m not wearing any base so those photos are not worthy enough to share. I’m also really impressed with the highlighter. Anything that could give me anything even AKIN to the beautiful peachy glow on Danie Vanier is worth it in my eyes!

Here’s a quick swatch on my arm, just to show you they are as nice on skin:

From top to bottom: top right blush, highlighter, bottom middle blush, top middle blush, bronzer.

All in all, I got 6 products for about £25 – not bad going!

Stay put for future summer GLO’D UP looks lol
